After more than a decade in the courtroom, first as a prosecutor and then as a plaintiffs’ trial lawyer, Nabilah Hossain is a trial attorney at Chang | Klein, LLP, representing people whose lives have been changed in an instant by catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and sexual abuse.
Nabilah began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in New York County, where she spent eight years prosecuting serious felonies including homicides and sex crimes cases to verdict. That work taught her how to sit with survivors and families on the hardest days of their lives, and how to present their stories to a jury with clarity and conviction.
She went on to become a Partner at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP, where she handled complex civil litigation against some of the largest corporations in the country. She prosecuted claims against PG&E arising from the Kincade and Dixie wildfires and played a significant role in the litigation arising from the 2023 Maui wildfires, which resolved in a $4.037 billion global settlement. She represented families around the world who lost loved ones in the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET 302, while also serving on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in that litigation.
At the heart of Nabilah’s practice is trauma-informed advocacy. She lectures frequently on trial advocacy, evidence, and trauma-informed interviewing, and she brings that approach to every client relationship, helping clients make sense of what happened, reclaim their voice, and turn deeply personal experiences into cases that demand accountability and protect others from the same harm.
“People come to us on the worst day of their lives, with the worst thing that’s ever happened to them,” Nabilah says. “To be able to pick them up and help them become whole again is why I do what I do.”
Nabilah earned her J.D., cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School and her B.A. in Politics and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies from New York University. During law school, she externed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the federal judiciary.
